Questions about web check-in

Who cannot use web check-in?

  • Passengers who have booked their airberlin flight as part of a package holiday
  • Passengers in a group booking of more than 11 people
  • Passengers whose booking or rebooking was made less than 4 hours before departure

Web check-in is possible for almost all airberlin routes. The check-in system used by airberlin is not yet supported at a few airports or there are official restrictions which mean that web check-in is not permitted.

Web check-in is not possible for all flights to Russia.
Furthermore the web check-in is not possible to and from: USA, Canada, Kosovo, Cyprus

and also for all flights from: Asturias / Oviedo, Bari, Bornholm, Brindisi, Budapest, Cagliari, Calvi, Constanta, Florence, Friedrichshafen, Guernsey, Izmir, Lamezia Terme, Male, Morocco, Montenegro, Murcia, Olbia, Palermo, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly, Ponta Delgada, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Reykjavík, Rimini, Santiago de Compostela, Skopje, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Varadero, Weeze, Windhoek 

 

What is required for group bookings?

Web check-in can be used for group bookings for up to 11 people. To open the booking enter the name of one of the passengers in the group and then select whom you wish to check in. Assuming that you have the agreement of your fellow passengers you can select seats for all of the group and also send them their boarding cards separately.

You do not have to check in all the passengers at the same time, you can also open the web check-in a second time.



 

How does the seat selection work?

A seat is suggested for each passenger in your booking using an interactive seat plan . This seat can be retained or reselected. You can change your choice as often as you wish.

If you have already reserved the seat you want, it will be shown in the seat plan and you can go straight to the next step.

 

What types of boarding cards are available?

In the penultimate step of the web check-in you decide the form in which your boarding card will be sent to you. You can choose from the following:


Boarding card in PDF format for downloading
You download your boarding card in the form of a PDF file and print both pages (original and customer copy) on conventional A4 printer paper. You hand in the original at the gate and keep the customer copy for your own use.
Note: A boarding card opened in PDF format on a mobile phone cannot be used for boarding.

Boarding card in PDF format by email

Your boarding card is sent to the address you enter in the form of a PDF file attachment and print both pages (original and customer copy) on conventional A4 printer paper. You hand in the original at the gate and keep the customer copy for your own use.
Note: A boarding card opened in PDF format on a mobile phone cannot be used for boarding.

SMS with link to mobile boarding card
You will be sent an SMS to the mobile number you have entered with a link which takes you to your mobile boarding card. You save this and/or open it for boarding. This requires an internet-enabled mobile phone. The really practical feature of this is that there is no need to print it out.

Mobile boarding card by email
You will receive your mobile boarding card in the form of a barcode as an email attachment which will be sent to an address you enter. You can then open this for boarding. This requirements email reception using an internet-enabled mobile phone. The really practical feature of this is that there is no need to print it out.

Mobile boarding card by MMS
You will receive your mobile boarding card in the form of a barcode by MMS which will be sent to a mobile phone number you enter. You can then open this for boarding. The really practical feature of this is that there is no need to print it out.
Please note that a mobile phone number on a German or Austrian mobile phone network is required for this service.

As a result of official restrictions at the departure and/or destination airport the mobile boarding card cannot be provided for all routes.

Collect your boarding card at the airport
You will be given your boarding card at the airport up to the check-in closure time » at the airberlin check-in desk. Alternatively you can print our your boarding card up to 45 minutes before your planned departure at one of the quick check-in machines at the airport terminal.

 

Is it possible to request the boarding card again?

You can open your web check-in procedure at any time up to 2 hours before departure and download or send your boarding card again. Alternatively you can collect your boarding card at the airport up to the check-in closure time » at the desk or print it out again at the quick check-in machines up to 45 minutes before your planned departure.

Note: Passengers with connecting flights will receive their boarding cards for all routes at the check-in desk.

 

Special features at the airport

What time must I be at the airport?


Please arrive at the airport in plenty of time before your boarding time at the gate shown on your boarding card.. Remember that there may be a waiting time at the security checks. Since the gate may change without notice, please check the display boards in the airport.

If you wish to drop off your baggage you can use the baggage drop-off or check-in desk up to the check-in closing time at your departure airport. Please show your boarding card there.

 

How does boarding work at the airport?

During the boarding procedure you must have your mobile boarding card ready by the scanner or hand over the hard copy (original) of your boarding card to the person at the gate. Please note that you must show your valid identification document for boarding. Please have this ready with your boarding card.

 

What is required for the security checks?

There are no special rules for the security checks. You show your (mobile) boarding card and your identification document.

 

Where can I leave my baggage?

Any baggage other than your hand baggage can be left at the baggage drop-off or check-in desk before boarding.

Please note that the check-in closing times » are in force for leaving baggage.

 

How can I find out which gate my flight is boarding?

The gate is shown on your boarding card. Since the gate may be changed without notice, you should check this information on the display board in the airport.
