FAQs

I am a holder of a topbonus status card – how will the introduction of the new fare structure, YourFare, affect me?

For bookings in the FlyClassic and FlyFex fare categories, nothing will change for you as the holder of a topbonus Silver/Gold/Platinum or Service Card. FlyClassic is the new name for the fares known previously as Eco Saver and Eco Basic; the FlyFlex fare corresponds to the former Eco Flex fare. On bookings in these fare categories, you can take full advantage of your status benefits as usual. The way you earn status and award miles has not changed either: you earn award and status miles in all fare categories » and if you fly 24 times within 12 months in the FlyClassic or FlyFlex fare categories, you will qualify for Silver status, or with our promotion campaign you can qualify for Gold status after 60 flights.

If you book in the new airberlin economy fare category, JustFly, you will fly at especially attractive rates in future. As the holder of a topbonus Silver, Gold or Platinum Card you will still be able to use numerous topbonus status benefits while you are travelling, even on flights booked in our budget-priced JustFly fare category: you still have unlimited access to priority services such as Priority Check-in, Security Fast Lane and Priority Boarding. You can also take advantage of benefits such as access to Exclusive Waiting Areas and lounges. You will find a detailed summary of the topbonus benefits available in the JustFly fare category in the table above.
On flights in our budget-priced JustFly fare category, however, you do not have access to additional services; you will find a summary of the services included in this fare category » here. Certain topbonus status benefits are affected by this restriction on additional services:

Seat reservations cannot be made for bookings in JustFly. For this reason it is also not possible for status customers to book a seat free of charge in this fare category. Other topbonus benefits linked to seat reservation – reduced rate/free reservation of XL seats, Hold Seat Free and Priority Seating - are also not available in JustFly.

  • On bookings in the JustFly fare category the carriage of sports baggage is excluded.  It is therefore not possible for topbonus status customers to check in sports baggage (free of charge) in this fare category.
  • It is only possible to check in baggage in the JustFly fare category by paying an additional charge. For a small fee checked baggage can be added to your booking. As the holder of a topbonus Silver, Gold or Platinum Card, if you book an item of baggage (and pay the fee), you are then also entitled to your free baggage allowance according to your status.
  • topbonus members can earn award and status miles in all the fare categories offered by airberlin. You will find a chart showing how many miles you earn with airberlin in different fare categorie » here. Flights booked in JustFly, however, do not count towards maintaining your status or qualifying for a higher status level. (They are not included in the calculation of flight segments flown.)

Can I also earn topbonus miles in the JustFly fare category? Do flights booked in JustFly count towards qualifying for a higher status level or maintaining my status?

topbonus members can still earn both award and status miles in all the fare categories offered by airberlin.* You will find a chart showing how many miles you earn with airberlin in different fare categories here ». In addition, the topbonus benefits "My Route" and the Silver/Gold mileage bonus are not affected by fare category.

You can still qualify to Upgrade your topbonus status with the number of flights you take in a period of 12 months. All flights with airberlin/NIKI in the FlyClassic and  FlyFlex fare categories and in Business Class are taken into account. However, flights booked in JustFly are not included when calculating the number of flights taken.

* Booking classes which have until now been excluded from the mileage award programme continue to be excluded.

It is only possible to check in baggage in the JustFly fare category by paying a fee.  As a status customer, am I still entitled to my increased free baggage allowance?

In order to check in baggage in the JustFly fare category all airberlin customers need to pay an additional charge. (Checked baggage option subject to payment of a fee). As a status customer, once you have chosen to add an item of baggage, subject to a charge, on a booking in JustFly, you then have access to the additional free baggage allowance corresponding to your topbonus Silver, Gold or Platinum status.

It is not possible to transport sports baggage on bookings in the JustFly fare category. As a status customer, am I still entitled to take an item of sports baggage free of charge?

Will the introduction of the JustFly fare lead to any changes in booking award flights?

No. The introduction of the new fare structure does not affect the booking of award flights.

I am a holder oh the topbonus Service Card – how will the introduction of the new fare structure affect me?

You can continue to use the wide range of benefits associated with the topbonus Service Card on bookings made in FlyClassic and FlyFlex. These topbonus benefits are unfortunately not available on flights booked in JustFly.

I am the holder of a topbonus status or Service Card - how much hand baggage can I take on board with me?

If you are flying in the JustFly or FlyClassic fare categories and would like to take a second item of hand baggage, please label this bag with your topbonus Gold or topbonus Platinum baggage label.
