Patscherkofel


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

The Patscherkofel in the Tuxer Alps lies to the south of Innsbruck, approx. 12 km from the airport. The J (IVB busses) bus line takes you directly from Innsbruck to Igls and the valley station of the Patscherkofelbahn or Olympiaexpress.


SKI AREA  

The most popular ski area near Innsbruck is the “Patscherkofel”, the local mountain, which is 2,250 m high. This area offers great variety: from wide family slopes to deep-snow trails, there is something to suit every taste. The ski area has pistes with a total length of 20 km and includes the Olympic downhill course. A small fun park has been set up for snowboarders, and freeriders will also enjoy themselves here. Modern snow-making equipment guarantees ideal winter fun.

SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

Austria’s largest continuous ski area, SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental, is only about an hour’s drive from Innsbruck, Munich and Salzburg airports.

The wide variety of pistes includes 120 km of easy runs (blue), 132 km of medium runs (red), 11 km of difficult runs (black) and 16 km of ski trails (black). The area around the Wilder Kaiser mountain has lots of natural snow from the start of December until the end of March and additional snow-making equipment also ensures a continuous covering of snow.
At the end of the 2008/09 winter season, “Skiresort Service International” even voted SkiWelt the best ski area of the winter!

Sölden


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

Sölden, a World Cup venue, lies in the Ötz Valley in the Tyrol and is one of the most famous skiing and snowboarding centres in the Alps. Innsbruck airport is about 85 km away.


SKI AREA

The extensive pistes at all difficulty levels and the excellent preparation of the 150 kilometres of runs make winter sports a singular pleasure in this area. You have a choice of 51 km of blue runs, 69 km of red runs, 28 km of black runs and 2 km of ski trails. Those who want to leave their tracks in the snow outside the secured ski area should try the Gaislachkogl (3,058 m). Thanks to their altitude of between 1,350 m and 3,340 m, the two glacier ski areas near the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers as well as snow-making equipment covering about 67 % of the pistes, snow is guaranteed in this ski area from October until May!

Ischgl


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

Ischgl, Austria’s best-known winter resort, lies in the heart of the modern Silvretta Arena ski area. Ischgl is about an hour from Innsbruck airport.


SKI AREA

The Silvretta Arena is one of the top 10 ski areas in Europe. 238 kilometres of pistes offer a wide variety of runs for all skill levels: 27 km of difficult runs, 148 km of medium runs, 51 km of easy runs and 12 km of ski trails. And that is not all: the gigantic snowARTpark has kickers, ramps, half-pipes and rails for fantastic freestyle action.
Thanks to the snow-making equipment there is guaranteed snow from early December until the end of April, even in years where there is little snow.

Arlberg


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

The Arlberg boasts reliable snow conditions and excellent pistes, which makes it a paradise for winter sports fans. The region is about 100 km from Innsbruck airport, and about 200 km from Zurich airport.


SKI AREA

The traditional winter sports resorts around the Arlberg (St. Anton, St. Christoph, Stuben, Lech and Zürs) offer 83 cable cars and lifts, 270 km of well prepared pistes for all skill levels and 170 km deep-snow runs.  There is also a large Funpark for snowboarders, more than 40 km of groomed cross-country trails, a toboggan run and a speed trial run.

Salzburg

Ski amadé


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

Ski amadé is Austria’s largest and probably most attractive ski region. The journey from Salzburg airport takes about 30 to 60 minutes by car and from Munich airport it takes about 2 hours. There are some ski busses that run between the individual ski areas. The Westbahn or Tauernbahn brings visitors to the region by rail.

The five ski regions that make up Ski amadé (Salzburger Sportwelt, Grossarltal, Gastein, Hochkönig and Schladming Dachstein) offer an astonishing 860 kilometres of pistes in the Salzburgerland and around 270 modern ski lifts and cable cars.  A wide range of winter sports facilities with world-famous and spectacular World Cup runs, super-wide carver and leisure slopes under the mountain peaks, as well as clearly laid-out family slopes, ensure great variety. The freestyle and snowboarding facilities also provide a wonderful challenge for those looking for an adrenalin rush.

Obertauern


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

Obertauern is the highest winter sports resort in the Salzburgerland and about 90 km from Salzburg airport. A shuttle service provides transfers from/to Salzburg airport.


SKI AREA

The centre of Obertauern is at 1,740 m. About 100 kilometres of pistes extend from here to the slopes of the impressive mountains that form the backdrop to the village. Obertauern offers perfect snow conditions from the end of November until early May. 28 cable cars and lift systems around the village offer a unique ski circuit. The resort’s location in a basin-shaped valley allows skiers to complete an entire circuit (in a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction) and return to where they started – the “Red Tauern Circuit” and the “Green Tauern Circuit”. The Longplaypark is the meeting place for snowboarders, while cross-country skiers have 26 km of trails to choose from, including the Hundsfeldloipe, which is 6 km long.

Zell am See - Kaprun


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

The ski slopes at the heart of the Pinzgau region are just 80 km from Salzburg airport. Zell am See – Kaprun is easy to reach by renting a car and driving along the A1 motorway and local highways. There are also express buses and shuttle services operated by local taxi companies that will take you straight from the airport to Zell am See and Kaprun.


SKI AREA

The most popular ski area around the Kitzensteinhorn, Schmittenhöhe and Maiskogel mountains offers 138 km of downhill runs on 57 pistes. The lifts take visitors up to the glacier ski area of the Kitzensteinhorn at 3,029 m. From the Schmittenhöhe there are nine runs in the most difficult category, and this mountain is the most challenging. The Maiskogel is dubbed the “family mountain”. Its pistes offer great variety and are considered ideal for those practising their skiing skills. A real highlight for snowboarders is Mellow Park, an area of 30,000 m2 with a 3.5 m high half-pipe. Freeriders can get their adrenalin rush on the Magnetköpfl route and the Langwied Pendant. Cross-country skiers are also catered for in Zell am See – Kaprun, where there are 200 km groomed cross-country trails.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm Leogang "Ski Circus"

Saalbach Hinterglemm or the village of Leogang is only about 70 km from Salzburg. The Holiday Shuttle operates six times a day and offers a convenient transfer from Salzburg airport to Saalbach Hinterglemm and back again.

The Nassfeld ski area is in Carinthia, on the Italian border. The region is about 85 km from Klagenfurt airport and there are various ways of getting there, including a shuttle service.

110 km of perfectly groomed pistes at all levels of difficulty and 30 modern lift systems make skiing on Carinthia’s Nassfeld a real delight – and the region even boasts 850 hours of sunshine during the winter season. Turracher Höhe


LOCATION & GETTING THERE

Turracher Höhe is a plateau in the heart of the Nock mountains, with Turrach Lake at its centre. The nearest airport is Klagenfurt, about 60 km or an hour’s drive away.


SKI AREA

38 km of varied runs and 14 cable cars, 15 km of cross-country tracks and 20 km of hiking trails offer a wide range of winter fun. A special attraction is the Nocky Flitzer, a spectacular Alpine rollercoaster. Three roundabouts, ramps and jumps make tobogganing here an amazing experience. Thanks to the altitude of this area, the skiing season usually lasts from November until the beginning of May.

LOCATION & GETTING THERE

The ski area is 100 km from Vienna airport and an hour’s drive away. By rail: From the Südbahnhof (South Station) in Vienna you can take the World Heritage Ghegabahn Semmering train direct to Semmering station.

 
SKI AREA
The Zau[:ber:]g Semmering ski area boasts Europe’s greatest range of night pistes and toboggan runs, groomed slopes with guaranteed snow. Cleared paths for winter hikes, snow-shoe and ski touring trails, as well as cross-country tracks in the village itself and an entry point to the Semmering-Wechsel Panorama Trail offer plenty of variety for your winter holiday. The area has 14 km of pistes, fast and comfortable lifts, an adventure toboggan run, a children’s area and the Split Park for snowboarders and freeskiers. There are more than 90 kilometres of cross-country tracks. The skiing and tobogganing area on the upper slopes at Semmering is floodlit well into the evening.
