Earning miles with Japan Airlines

topbonus members are able to earn topbonus status and award miles on the entire route network of Japan Airlines and its affiliate airlines JAL Express, J-AIR and Japan Transocean Air. Just enter your topbonus number when booking a flight or present your topbonus Card at the airport check-in desk. The number of miles accrued will depend on the booking class and the flight segment as shown below

Please note: Charter flights, award flights and flights with Japan Airlines (JL), JAL Express (JC), J-AIR (XM) and Japan Transocean Air (NU) flight number that are not operated by Japan Airlines, JAL Express, J-AIR and Japan Transocean Air or an oneworld® airline partner are not eligible for mileage accrual.

Redemption Chart

Award flights can be booked as one-way and return flights. Taxes, fees and charges will be charged separately and can only be paid by credit card. The amount of miles outlined in the redemption chart refers to one-way award flights.

Sample calculation

A flight from Berlin (TXL) to Tokyo (NRT) via Frankfurt (FRA) requires 45,000 miles in Economy Class and 90,000 miles in Business Class. For roundtrips the double amount of miles is required.

Please note: All award flights can only be booked exclusive taxes, fees and fuel surcharges and the amount of miles outlined in the award chart below refers to one-way award flights.

Retroactive mileage credit

If your topbonus award miles for flights with Japan Airlines and its affiliate airlines JAL Express, J-AIR and Japan Transocean Air since 20th March 2012 have not been automatically credited to your account – or you forgot to present your topbonus Card at Check-in – don’t worry!

Priority Check-in

Holders of a topbonus Silver, Gold or Platinum Card can use the Business Class Check-in counter. Platinum Card holders can additionally check-in at the First Class counters. Just present your topbonus Card at the respective Priority Check-in counters.  

Priority Seating

topbonus status members can access preferred seating on selected flights. This benefit is available in accordance with the individual policy of the oneworld member airline operating the flight.

Priority on Standby & Waitlists at the airport

topbonus status members enjoy priority on waitlists and when travelling on standby on all oneworld flights. This benefit is available in accordance with the individual policy of the oneworld member airline operating the flight.

Priority Boarding

topbonus Gold and Platinum Card holders can enjoy the benefit of Priority Boarding on all flights operated by oneworld airlines, where this benefit is offered.

Lounge access

Just present your valid oneworld boarding pass and your topbonus Gold or Platinum Card and enjoy the benefits of the oneworld Business Class Lounges! Holders of a Platinum Card holders can additionally enter the oneworld First Class Lounges with a valid oneworld boarding pass.

Please note: Lounge access is only possible on the outbound flight segment with a valid boarding pass. Access upon arrival at the airport of final destination is not permitted. 

More luggage

Every topbonus Platinum Card now has an increased luggage allowance on every oneworld flight. For the maximum weight of your additional piece of luggage please refer to the luggage regulations of the oneworld airline you wish to fly with. 

Security Fast Lane
