There is a public shuttle bus service linking the airport and city centre.
A railway service between the airport and city centre is planned for 2014.
Taxis are available around the clock, just as with private minibus companies. Most taxi drivers speak good English. However, they usually use specific buildings or places of interest to find their way from A to B, rather than street names. It is therefore advisable to describe where you want to go in terms of nearby parks, banks, shopping centres, or hotels. Taxis in Abu Dhabi are relatively cheap. The minimum fare is 3 Dirham, and every kilometre driven costs 1 Dirham.
Six car hire firms have offices at Abu Dhabi airport, including Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Budget. All offices are located in the Terminal 1 car park and are open 24/7. All makes and types of vehicle are available for hire. If you want to pick up your car without delay, it is best to book in advance.
There are various parking facilities available at the airport for short-term and long-term stays. The car parks are located close to the arrivals and departures halls, and are monitored around the clock. There are a total of 200 spaces for passenger vehicles. There are also special parking areas set aside for cyclists and motorcyclists. Charges apply for all parking spaces. However, charges for parking at Terminal 2 are lower, so spaces here are particularly popular with long-term parkers. More favourable rates are also applicable for disabled parking spaces. A number of shuttle and chauffeur services are offered to reach the car parks from the airport.
An information desk can be found in the main hall close to the shopping area before you check in. A customer service desk is also located in the shopping area after passing through passport and customs control.
